Location:
So location is going to be of paramount importance? Well let's take a look at what is nearby for St. Swithins Cottage and in particular let's look at London Heathrow Airport, London itself, Windsor, Henley-on-Thames, Ascot, Oxford and Cambridge.
- London Heathrow Airport - is 21 miles or 30 minutes due East and with our, very own, tailored transport service we will ensure you get here effortlessly, regardless of the size of your party.
- City of London - Twyford railway station is 1 mile away
with times from 22 minutes to London Paddington. Wokingham railway station is
3 miles away with time from just over 1 hour to London Waterloo.

Please use theTrainLine.com to research your train journey requirements to London Paddington or other mainline stations and then use London Underground for purchasing in advance visitor Oyster cards or Travelcards online (please watch the video in the bottom right hand corner).
- Windsor Castle - is 12 miles or 20 minutes due East with LegoLand Windsor only 10 miles away and 17 minutes from St. Swithins Cottage.
- Henley-on-Thames - either use the train 1 mile away in
Twyford for a 12 minute journey or drive the 6.5 miles in 15 minutes almost
due north.
Both the Henley Royal Regatta & the Henley Festival are an absolute must for any American's diary so you can just experience the pomp and ceremony of what England truly has to offer!
- Royal Ascot & Ladies Day - again either use the
train 3 miles away in
Wokingham
for a 13 minute journey or drive the 10 miles in 20 minutes almost
south-east.
You just cannot fail to take your wife or partner to Ladies Day at Royal Ascot as there can be no other horse racing event in the World which comes close to what this occasion offers in terms of grandeur, fashion, ceremony, excitement and your very own special memories!
- Oxford - either use the train 1 mile away in Twyford for a journey from 45 minutes changing at Reading or drive the 30 miles in just over an hour north-west through Henley-on-Thames.
- Cambridge - Really only one comfortable way to do this and that is to take the train from Twyford for just over a 2 hour journey time. But Cambridge is so beautiful architecturally it cannot to be missed off your list! If you wish to drive it is roughly a 2 hour journey or just over 100 miles north-east.
Taking all these destinations into account you can see that St. Swithins
Cottage is fairly central to each and when you combine that with the local rail
and road systems we hope we have filled you with confidence that this
represents
an ideal starting point to view all the possible places of interest you may
want to visit. Now where you stay must also be beautiful and, of course, "quintessentially" English so adding to those requirements I give you St. Swithins Cottage, sitting on its own private 4 acre plot, it is full of history and nostalgia as it dates back some 500 years.
What could be more "quintessentially" English than having your own equally
ancient and fantastic village tavern The Green Man right at the boundary of
where you are staying where you can sit, relax, eat, drink and recount
the adventures of your day to well educated locals who are only too happy to
listen and share in your experiences? It's also those same pleasant well
educated locals who always make that huge difference to the success of a pub
and thats why The Green Man is always full!If you are a B&B customer of St. Swithins Cottage you can even pay for your accommodation by credit card in The Green Man as you relax after a long hard day with a hearty dinner and the odd pint or two!
When you venture out through the front door of St. Swithins Cottage you are in the fabulous countryside and archetypal English village of Hurst which is romantically equipped with the prerequisite cricket pitch, pond, school, post office,
butcher & baker all, of which, are but within a couple hundred yards!Just out of the village we have an award winning vineyard, a golf course ranked in the top 70 in the UK and a spa ranked with the best in Europe. All local attractions and within 4 miles!
So St. Swithins Cottage with it's Boutique rooms, country views and walks just outside its front door lives up to it's maxim viz.
Just as important as the location of the property you wish to stay in and as
important as the property itself is your host so please just click on this gothic styled testimonial immediately to the left to see what this American Rock Star Group and many others had to say of their stay at St. Swithins Cottage in their own handwriting and from our own actual guest book on the table right by our front door.
In addition both Google Reviews and TripAdvisor Reviews are also available for you to peruse.
St. Swithins Cottage also opperates an All-in-One pricing policy and that means everything is included as follows:-

So that brings us nicely onto introducing your host
I have endeavoured to put
myself in your shoes and if my character is similar to yours I guarantee you
will adore it here. I suppose a a good way to start is to tell you a bit about
myself and why I came to live here all those years ago and can think of no
nicer place to live!!!!My name is Dean Milroy and I moved into the ancient village of Hurst and St. Swithins House, which is next door to St. Swithins Cottage, in 1990. At that time I worked for a big American IBM competitior and was based in a very local science park. Why did I chose Hurst - almost a bit of luck! But the location from a business perspective is so perfect and therefore from your perspective I have almost done the groundwork for you.
Bizarrely between then and March 2003, when St. Swithins Cottage came into my hands, I also lived for a couple of years in St. Swithins Court, Twyford. So there must be some affinity between me and the Right Honourable Mr. St. Swithins!
Both my sons started their education in our village school which won the
UK Primary School of the Year award in 1995. They are now continuing their
education as polite, caring & thoughtful young gentlemen but it was this
village that gave them that springboard in life.A lot of good memories were created here and its time to let others share those wonderful experiences too and so I offer you the joy, majesty and magic of the ancient St. Swithins Cottage.
